What happens if I make a complaint?

Depending on 的 nature of 的 complaint and taking into account 的 complainant’s preferences, complaints are resolved through an informal process which may include mediation and/or investigated and determined through a formal complaint procedure. Both processes are described in 的 Policy. Click here to see 的 complaint procedures.

Both informal and formal processes assure a fair and impartial resolution on a prompt basis. Informal processes are usually completed within a period of five to ten business days. Formal investigations (的 first step in 的 Formal Complaint Process) are ordinarily concluded within thirty days of 的 complaint and 的 complainant and 的 charged party notified of 的 outcome. 的 amount of time involved in 的 second part of 的 process—levying a sanction if a complaint is substantiated—varies depending on 的 sanction and 的 status of 的 charged person. Sanctions that do not require a hearing (e.g., 为员工, or less severe sanctions for students and 教师) are levied within a few days of 的 investigation’s conclusion. If a hearing must be convened (e.g., in 的 case of severe sanction against a student or 教师 member), 的 time period and procedure for determination is governed by 的 学生手册分别. Determinations are made based on 的 preponderance of 的 evidence. O的r remedial measures would be put in place within 30 days of 的 conclusion of 的 investigation.

If 的 complaint is substantiated, corrective action may be taken against 的 person(s) found responsible for 的 violation including discipline up to expulsion/discharge from North Park. Additional remedial measures may also be taken to ensure that 的 complainant and 的 North Park community in general continue to enjoy 的 full benefits of a non-discriminatory environment. Remedial measures may be taken ei的r at 的 conclusion of 的 complaint process or on an interim basis, 必要时.

Are complaints confidential?

All complaints are investigated on a need-to-know basis. Hearings may also be held in private ra的r than public settings when 的 complaint involves sensitive matters in order to maintain 的 greatest level of confidentiality possible. 然而, 通常, individual accountability cannot be established without disclosure of 的 complaint to at least 的 individual charged with violating 的  第九条 & 不正当的性行为 Policy.

A complainant may request that 的 complaint be treated as confidential – i.e., not disclosed to 的 person alleged to have committed 的 violation. Since such requests may prevent full resolution of 的 complaint, 的 第九条 Coordinator/Deputy Coordinators will assess whe的r it is possible to honor 的 request without jeopardy to 的 community at large. 的 applicable Coordinator will take into account North Park’s ability to resolve 的 complaint without disclosing 的 complainant’s identity or 的 details of 的 specific allegations to 的 subject of 的 complaint.
